Review summary

Paladin Istvhan and nun Clara join forces to pursue abducted sisters and a supernatural killer, each concealing a dangerous truth while their trust becomes attraction.

Full review

Paladin's Strength follows Istvhan, another surviving paladin of the Saint of Steel, as he tracks the supernatural killer connected to the first book. His route crosses that of Clara, a nun pursuing the raiders who destroyed her convent and carried away her sisters.

Both travelers are physically formidable, experienced, and reluctant to expose what makes them vulnerable. Clara belongs to a secretive religious order and carries a transformation she fears Istvhan will regard as monstrous. Their shared journey turns mutual suspicion into respect before either is prepared to call it desire.

This sequel broadens the world through roadside dangers, religious communities, trafficking, gladiatorial violence, and creatures that resist easy classification. It has more travel and action than Paladin's Grace, but the romance remains patient, funny, body-positive, and attentive to the difference between protecting someone and deciding for them.

Two strong people allowed to need help

Istvhan and Clara are used to being the largest and most capable people in a room. Their compatibility comes from relief as much as attraction: each recognizes strength in the other without treating it as proof that fear, tenderness, or support are unnecessary.

Secrets that shape the road romance

Clara's order and Istvhan's investigation give them legitimate reasons to withhold information. The tension works because disclosure carries consequences, not because a trivial misunderstanding is artificially prolonged.

Adventure, romance, and reading order

The book combines a road quest, missing-person search, monsters, combat, and a mature central romance with on-page intimacy. Its couple has a complete arc, but the returning paladins and ongoing killer investigation make Paladin's Grace the best starting point.

Key ideas

  • Strength is more sustainable when it permits dependence and rest.
  • A secret identity is not the same as a deceptive character.
  • Protection without respect can become another form of control.
  • Bodies outside conventional romantic ideals can be powerful and desired.

FAQ

Can Paladin's Strength be read first?
The romance is self-contained, but reading Paladin's Grace first provides the dead god, surviving paladins, recurring characters, and the investigation that Istvhan continues.
Is Paladin's Strength a romance?
Yes. It is an adult fantasy romance between Istvhan and Clara, surrounded by a road adventure, missing nuns, political cruelty, and supernatural danger.
How explicit is Paladin's Strength?
It contains on-page sexual content, though character trust, humor, action, and the larger mystery remain equally important.

Reading guide

  • Remember that Istvhan is continuing the killer investigation from book one.
  • Track Clara's sisters and the raiders as a separate but intersecting goal.
  • Notice how each character interprets the other's physical competence.
  • Expect more travel and combat than in Paladin's Grace.
